Wilton J. Aucoin Sr., a lifelong resident of Berwick, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014, in Morgan City at the age of 91.
Wilton was a World War II Army veteran. His service for our country took him to the South Pacific, the Philippines and Japan. Attaining the rank of sergeant, he led his men with great honor and dignity. Working in the oil field to provide for his family’s every need, he worked for Arthur Levy and Odeco for 23 years. Wilton was a life member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was commander of the VFW for a year. Working by his wife Mary’s side, they called many games of Bingo, and gave out tons of poppies. Wilton was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be sadly missed by all those who were made better by knowing this great man.
Wilton leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife of 63 wonderful years, Mary Louise Aucoin; his three sons, Barry Aucoin and his wife, Pam, Wilton Aucoin Jr. and his wife, Jackie, and Bret Aucoin and his wife, Peggy; four daughters, Chandra Donati, Rhonda Mello and her husband, Harley, Cathy Schultz and her husband, Jack, and Shirley Duval. Wilton is also survived by his 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Wilton was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Edna Aucoin; his son, Randy; and grandchildren, Kern and Keith.
Visitation will be held at Hargrave Funeral Home Saturday April 19, 2014, from 10 a.m. until services at 3 p.m. The East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad will conduct full military honors, with the presentation of the American flag and a 21-gun salute.
Wilton will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.
