Maxie Roy Jr., 66, a native of Kaplan and resident of Verdunville, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by love.
Maxie, also known as “Smiley,” will be lovingly remembered as a kind-hearted man full of life, laughter and joy. Maxie began life on a farm and never lost his love of animals and nature. Maxie was a 1965 graduate of Patterson High School and his classmates will never forget the fun times and adventures they shared. After his legendary high school career, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his time in the service, his roots brought him back to St. Mary Parish where he worked in the oil field for over 40 years with his buddies until his retirement.
Maxie is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Crystal Cooper Roy; and their daughter, Kailyn Roy Daniel and her husband, Doug, of Lafayette. He is also survived by his daughters, Bridget Roy of Centerville and Nadine Roy Porta of Denham Springs. Additionally he is survived by five grandchildren and his two four-legged buddies, Buster and Jr.
Maxie is preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Maxie Roy Sr.; several aunts and uncles; and his beloved cat, Dulac.
A celebration of Maxie’s life will be held Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at Hargrave Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m., with a service of remembrance beginning at 6 p.m.
