Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin for James David “Slim” Cowart Jr., with a gathering of family and friends held Friday from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., and again Saturday from 8 a.m. until time of service. He will be laid to rest in the Franklin Cemetery. Pastor Jackie Wells of Christian Fellowship Church in Denham Springs, will officiate the services. Serving as pallbearers will be David McQuiston, Jacob Cowart, Jathan Cowart, Jared Cowart, Kalob Cowart and Billy Cowart.
Slim was a native and lifelong resident of Franklin, who passed away Tuesday at 12:26 a.m., at Franklin Foundation Hospital at the age of 65.
Survivors include his five children, David Lee McQuiston of Jeanerette, Jamie Ann Cowart, Jacob Leston Cowart and his wife, April Joy, Jathan Douglas “Beanie” Cowart and Jared Michael “Boss” Cowart; his mother, Leonise Rita Boudreaux Cowart; two brothers, Calvin “Peanut” Ray Cowart and his wife, Theresa; and Billy Wayne Cowart; and one sister, Diane Marie Landry, all of Franklin; as well as 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, James David Cowart Sr.; and two brothers, Ricky and Leston Cowart.
