DEACON MORRIS LEWIS SR.
Deacon Morris Lewis Sr., 86, a native and a resident of Jeanerette, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 3:51 p.m., at his residence.
The Lewis family will receive extended family and friends on Monday May 26, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.., at Jones Funeral Home, 604 Lovette St. in Jeanerette.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 27, at the St. Jude Spiritual Devine Church in Jeanerette, from 9 a.m. until the beginning of funeral services at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Jude Cemetery of Jeanerette.
Deacon Lewis was employed and retired as a machinist for Moresi’s Foundry. Also, he, along with his wife, the late Archbishop Julia Lewis, was the founders and builders of the St. Jude Devine Spiritual Church of Jeanerette. Deacon Lewis loved praising God.
Deacon Lewis leaves to cherish his memories, his loving eight daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Gloria L.) Walters, Mrs. Felton (Archbishop Diane L.) Colar Sr., both of Jeanerette, Mrs. Charles (Barbara L.) Toussaint Sr. of Charenton, Mrs. Rev. Arnold Ray (Doris L.) Joseph of Franklin, Mrs. Ivory (Mercedes L.) Francois Sr. and Mrs. Dallas (Jeanette L.) Walters Sr., both of Jeanerette, Mrs. Buffuns (Pastor Monette L.) Bolden Sr. of Abbeville and Latasha Louis (Leeward Davis Jr.) of Jeanerette; a daughter-in-law; three godchildren, 69 grandchildren; 165 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Morris was preceded in death by his mother, his father, his stepfather, his wife, one son, one son-in-law, one brother, his mother and father-in-law and a sister-in-law.
