Nine take top graduate honors at Berwick High

Berwick High School is honoring nine students as top graduates for 2012.

Anastasia Grace Bergeron, daughter of James and Francisca Bergeron of Bayou Vista, is one of nine valedictorians for the 2012 graduating class of Berwick High School. She has been involved in many organizations throughout high school, including Beta Club, Key Club, Foreign Language Club, Relay for Life, Student Council, SADD, volleyball, track and field, and football management. Bergeron was the recipient of the Track Panther Pride award for the past three years and was 2011 parish champion in javelin. She has been granted a Catholic Youth Leadership award and a full academic scholarship to Nicholls State University where she will major in biology with plans of becoming a physical therapist.

Tyler James LaCoste is the son of Bubba and Dana LaCoste of Morgan City. While attending BHS, LaCoste has participated in band, tennis and Drama Club. He represented BHS at Literary Rally, Louisiana Boys’ State, Louisiana Youth Seminar, Nicholls State Free Enterprise Week, and was a Hugh O’Brien Youth Leader. In the fall, LaCoste will attend LSU to major in biology. LaCoste plans to attend medical school to become a cardiovascular surgeon.

Casey Marie LeBlanc is the daughter of Terry and Michelle LeBlanc of Berwick. She has earned the highest levels of Wisecat and Powercat throughout four years of high school. LeBlanc is a recipient of the LSU Academic Scholars Resident award. She plans to attend LSU to major in biology and will pursue a career in medicine.

Bryce Matthew Mayon, son of Byron and Rhonda Mayon of Bayou Vista, has been a member of Beta Club, Drama Club, Key Club, Interact, and the Sound of Pride during his four years at BHS. Mayon was a four-year letterman in tennis, track and cross country, and was selected as the Wendy’s High School Heisman nominee. He was also selected for the academic all-state composite teams for all three sports. He has been a member of the parish, district, and all-state honor bands and choirs. Mayon is a recipient of the Ignatian Scholarship for Academic Excellence, the API scholarship, and the Knights of Columbus scholarship. He plans to attend Loyola University in New Orleans and will major in Music Industries/Business Administration.

Morgan Elizabeth Mitchell is the daughter of Elizabeth Hebert Mitchell and Gary Mitchell. The three major accomplishments she has earned in high school that she is most proud of include being named to the LHSAA all-state academic teams for volleyball and tennis, keeping her grades up to earn the highest level of Wisecats, and never having received any referrals to attain the highest degree of Powercats. She plans to attend NSU to major in elementary education. She hopes to become a teacher for the St. Mary Parish School Board.

Anne Lee Parsiola is the daughter of Charles and Melissa Parsiola of Berwick. She has served as executive vice president of BHS’ Student Council. Most recently, Parsiola became a state champion in girls’ doubles in tennis. She plans to attend LSU to major in biology. She hopes to someday attend medical school and will specialize in pediatrics.

Regan Nicole Sampey is the daughter of Blair and Angela Sampey of Berwick. As a senior at BHS, she is an eighth degree Wisecat and Powercat. She was named BHS’ Female Wendy’s High School Heisman nominee. After graduation, she will be attending NSU to study nursing and would like to pursue a career working as a neonatal or pediatric nurse at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans.

Kelsi Rae Theriot is the daughter of Kelly Theriot. Throughout her high school years, she has maintained the highest degree of both Wisecat and Powercat. She has been awarded the Dean’s scholarship from NSU. She plans to attend Nicholls to major in nursing. After college, Theriot wants to work as a neonatal intensive care unit nurse at Women’s Hospital of Baton Rouge.

Hailey Elizabeth Wilkinson is the daughter of Nathan and Jonni Wilkinson of Patterson. Over the past four years, Wilkinson has received the all-academic composite award in basketball, placed second at the district Literary Rally for Spanish 2, and has participated in several honor bands and honor choirs across the state. Wilkinson has been awarded an academic scholarship and a music scholarship to Southeastern Louisiana University, where she will pursue a major in music education.

Summa cum laude graduates include Shelby Marie Spinella, Megan Margaret Fegenbush, Bradley Cole Lemoine, Adria Ann Bergeron, Lindsay Thelma Bennett, Abby Elaine Bergeron, Mckenzie Ryan Beasley, Heather DeJesus Verret and Alexis Barfield.

Berwick High School's graduation will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Paul Geisler Memorial Stadium.
