Murder suspect arrested on drug charges
PATTERSON, La. -- An 18-year-old Patterson man, who was under house arrest after being charged with second degree murder in February, was arrested Thursday on a warrant for cultivation of marijuana, according to a news release from Sheriff Mark Hebert.
Marcus Jay Hamilton, 18, of the 1700 block of Guyther Street in Patterson, was arrested at 4:24 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for cultivation of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Narcotics division detectives located Hamilton at his residence on the warrant.
The warrant stems from a February narcotics investigation, conducted in conjunction with a homicide investigation, during which a small marijuana grow was located, Hebert stated. Hamilton was given a summons to appear in court on Sept. 17. Hamilton remains under house arrest with bail set at $250,000 for the second degree murder charge, Hebert stated.
Hamilton was arrested Feb. 28 for second degree murder in the shooting death of 18-year-old Keyiona Chenevert in Bayou Vista. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office criminal investigation division began its investigation Jan. 21 after Chenevert’s body was discovered in an apartment on Three B’s Lane in Bayou Vista. Chenevert’s death was the result of a single gunshot wound to the head.
