Morgan City man arrested, charged with first degree murder, attempted robbery
MORGAN CITY, La. -- Paul Charles, 22, of 1020 Sixth St., Morgan City, was taken into custody at his home Friday morning on a warrant for attempted first degree murder and attempted robbery with a firearm, a news release from St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives, accompanied by Morgan City police, executed a search warrant at his residence, the news release stated.
The shooting occurred about 2 a.m. June 14 outside of a lounge located on La. 182 in Amelia near the Greenwood overpass, Hebert stated. Three black males approached the victim, a Hispanic male, and attempted to rob him. During the attempt, the victim was shot.
Through the course of the investigation, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office released descriptions of two persons of interest whom investigators believed had information regarding the crime.
Working with tips provided by the public and other evidence, detectives furthered the investiga-tion developing one of those persons as a suspect in the shooting.
Charles, who also goes by the name of “Diddy,” was arrested at 10:25 a.m. and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, Hebert stated. He is also charged on a warrant for failure to appear on a traffic charge.
No bond is set.
The victim of this crime has since been released from the hospital and is continuing to recover.
Hebert added that the investigation is ongoing.
