Morgan City man accused of shaking his infant son

MORGAN CITY, La. -- A Morgan City man has been arrested after police say he shook his infant son causing the child neurological damage.

Gregory Marcus Parker, 18, of Bernice Street was charged at 1:27 p.m. Monday on a warrant for second degree cruelty to juveniles.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office received a report from a doctor at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans May 2 that he was treating a 3 ½-month-old infant for injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome, Sheriff Mark Hebert said.

Through interviews with the parents and family, police determined that the injuries occurred while the infant was in the care of Parker, the infant’s father, the sheriff said.

The infant suffered neurological damage and is in critical but stable condition, Hebert said.

Parker was transported to the parish jail where he remains with no bail set.
