MORGAN CITY, La. — Two small fires — one at a home and one at an industry — kept the Morgan City Fire Department busy over the weekend.

Shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday, a smoke alarm alerted residents of a mobile home owned by Veronica Gaudet at 1015 Third St. of an electrical fire.

“The alarm alerted her, she called the fire department, and we were able to handle the situation,” Chief Morris Price of the Morgan City Fire Department said.

There were no injuries, and the home suffered “very minor damage due to the fire alarm working properly,” Price said.

One ladder truck, three pumper trucks, and 13 personnel responded to the Third Street fire.

Fewer than six hours earlier, a fire erupted in some machinery at the Baker Hughes facility at 500 First Street, Price said.

The call for the fire was received at 9:20 p.m., and the fire was “extinguished by fire personnel with minimal damage,” Price said.

One ladder truck, three pumper trucks, and 15 personnel responded to the Baker Hughes fire.
