Morgan City falls at home
MORGAN CITY — The Morgan City High School Tigers couldn’t complete the season sweep of South Terrebonne as the Tigers fell at home, 7-4 Wednesday.
South Terrebonne jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings, and while Morgan City plated a run in the bottom of the third, South Terrebonne responded with four runs in the top of the fourth for a 7-1 advantage.
Morgan City plated two runs combined during the next two innings for the final.
“We had too many mental mistakes early in the game,” Morgan City coach Marc Gonzales said. “It took too long for us to get our focus.”
Gonzales said by the time the team became focused it was too late.
“South Terrebonne did a good job of putting pressure on us, but we added to the cause,” he said. “We could not get the clutch hit when we needed it.”
Josh Glatter suffered the loss for Morgan City. In three innings of work, he surrendered five runs — four earned — on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts. He hit one batter.
Nicholas Spinella finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Morgan City, while Ryan Veillion added a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI. Other top contributors included Taylor Brocato, 2-for-3; Chandler Delaune, 2-for-3, a run; Grant Perry, 2-for-4; and Buck Gautreaux, an RBI and two runs.
Morgan City (11-11 overall, 4-4 in District 8-4A play) will return to action Saturday when it hosts Vandebilt Catholic at 4 p.m. in district action.
Lady Panthers fall to Lutcher
The Berwick Lady Panthers concluded their regular season Wednesday with a 10-4 loss to Lutcher on the road.
No individual statistics were available.
The Lady Panthers concluded their regular season with a 17-11 record and now will await their playoff seeding, which will be announced this afternoon.
Berwick game rained out
The Berwick Panthers’ District 9-3A game today against Kaplan has been rained out and will be played Friday at 5 p.m. in Berwick.
