Mom, son accused of burglarizing residence

MORGAN CITY, La. — A 17-year-old male and his 47-year-old mother were arrested Monday by Morgan City police after the mother burglarized a residence on Sunday, which was the same residence her son burglarized in May, according to Police Chief Travis Crouch.

Brandon Michael Collier, 17, of Brownell Homes in Morgan City, and his mother, Tina Marie Collier, 47, of New Iberia, were arrested at 11:56 p.m. Monday as a result of an investigation into a residential burglary.

Brandon Collier was charged with simple burglary and possession of stolen things. Tina Collier was charged with simple burglary.

The owner of a Sixth Street residence reported their residence had been burglarized on May 17, in which several items were stolen from the residence, Crouch stated. The same residence, was reportedly burglarized a second time on Sunday and additional items were removed from the residence, Crouch stated. Both incidents were turned over to Morgan City detectives to investigate.

With the aid of information provided by the victim in the burglary, detectives identified Brandon Collier and his mother, Tina Collier, as suspects, according to Crouch. Both Brandon Collier and Tina Collier were questioned by detectives and admitted to their involvement in the two burglaries, Crouch stated.

On May 17, Brandon Collier committed a burglary of the Sixth Street residence and removed items from within the residence, Crouch stated. According to statements, Tina Collier went to the same residence on Sunday, entered the residence through a broken window and removed additional items, Crouch stated.

Brandon Collier remains in the Morgan City Jail awaiting bail. Tina Collier was booked into the Morgan City Jail, then transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville where she remains.
