Men arrested on drug charges; 1 accused of trying to eat marijuana
BAYOU VISTA, La. -- Two men were arrested after a traffic stop when St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s deputies saw one of the men attempt to eat a small amount of marijuana, according to a news release from St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert.
Hebert reported the following arrests:
—Heath Thompson, of the 500 block of Garber Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:30 a.m. today for possession of schedule I (marijuana), violation of controlled dangerous substance law (drug free zone), possession of drug paraphernalia, and obstruction of justice.
—Travis Lacoste, 24, of the 1800 block of Rose Street in Berwick, was arrested at 2:30 a.m. today for resisting an officer and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of schedule I (marijuana).
Deputies patrolling the Bayou Vista area observed a vehicle without a license plate light and conducted a traffic stop on Southeast Boulevard. Deputies made contact with two passengers in the vehicle who were identified as Thompson and Lacoste.
During the investigation, deputies observed Thompson attempting to eat a small amount of suspected marijuana. Deputies also learned of the warrant for Lacoste’s arrest. Items of drug paraphernalia were located in the vehicle. Both Thompson and Lacoste were taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set for Thompson. No bail is set for Lacoste.
—Jennifer Slate, 52, of the 100 block of Pine Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:11 p.m. Monday for possession of crack cocaine and violation of the general speed law. St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives were patrolling the Morgan City area when they observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and met with the driver, identified as Slate. After receiving consent to search, detectives located crack cocaine on Slate, Hebert stated. She was taken to the parish jail and held, Hebert stated. No bail is set.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Terrance Johnson, 22, of the 300 block of Myrtle Street in Patterson, was arrested at 5:43 a.m. today for two headlights required, no driver’s license, and no proof of insurance. Johnson was released on $572 bail.
—Shawn Gant, 41, of the 1800 block of L Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:05 p.m. Monday for simple battery domestic violence. Gant is still being held.
—Leroy Gant, 57, of the 1800 block of L Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:07 p.m. Monday for simple battery domestic violence. Gant is still being held. No bail has been set.
—Kristin Hull, 23, of the 200 block of Wren Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:44 a.m. today for criminal damage to property less than $500. Hull was released on $500 bail.
—Nikki Rene Mayon, 30, of the 100 block of Shady Grove in Patterson, was arrested at 1:57 a.m. today for headlights required and suspended driver’s license. Mayon is still being held on $466 bail.
Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reports the following arrests:
—Gambino Gonzales Ortiz, 36, of Lake Palourde Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:09 p.m. Saturday and charged with obstructing public passage and no driver’s license. Morgan City police received a complaint of a person, later identified as Ortiz, slumped at the wheel of a vehicle and blocking the intersection of Brashear and Federal avenues.
Ortiz was checked by medical personnel but advised officers he was just sleepy. Ortiz did not possess a valid driver’s license, police said. He was arrested and jailed with bail set at $763.
—Timothy K. Meredith, 41, of Aucoin Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:17 p.m. Saturday and charged with disturbing the peace intoxicated. Meredith, who according to officers appeared intoxicated, was jailed with bail set at $292.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reports the following arrests:
—Craig Free, 27, of Kelli Drive in Patterson, was arrested at his home at 8:47 p.m. Saturday for disturbing the peace by fighting. He was released on $370 bail.
—Jordan Ray Engleton, of Apple Street in Morgan City, was arrested on Red Cypress Road and charged with speeding for driving 60 mph in a 45 mph zone and driving with a suspended driver’s license. He was released on a $503 bail.
—A 16-year-old juvenile of Sixth Street in Morgan City was arrested at 2:10 a.m. Saturday on Main Street in Patterson and charged with unauthorized use of a movable, curfew violation, two-headlights required, no driver’s license and no proof of insurance. The juvenile was released to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Brandi Anthony, 36, of Fairview Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:32 p.m. Monday for possession of a legend drug without a prescription and simple criminal damage to property. Anthony is still being held.
—Troy Ervin, 41, of San Antonio, was arrested at 3:57 a.m. Saturday for disturbing the peace-intoxicated. He was released on $150 bail.
St. Martin Parish Sheriff Ronnie Theriot reported the following arrest:
—Bobbie Topham, 31, of the 3100 block of La. 70 in Morgan City, was arrested for simple battery and simple criminal damage to property.
