Meetings focus on black bear population
BATON ROUGE (AP) — The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the University of Tennessee plan public meetings Aug. 5 and Aug. 6 focusing on research into black bear populations.
The Aug. 5 meeting will be at the Pointe Coupee Communication Center in Morganza at 6:30 p.m. The Aug. 6 meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Mary Parish Courthouse in Franklin.
Tennessee graduate students will present an update on population research, including estimates and density of bears in the area. The future goals of Louisiana’s bear management and the necessary steps to reach those goals will be discussed.
