MCHS wins; CCHS falls at home

Morgan City routed Patterson, 25-14, 25-10, 25-11 in non-district action Tuesday at Patterson.

Senior Katelyn Adams led Morgan City (2-3) with 33 assists, three aces, a kill and a dig, while sophomore Jaiveianna Jones added nine kills, three aces, two digs and a solo block. Other MCHS contributors included senior Marilynn Bailey, three kills, two assists, four aces and three digs; junior Savannah Loupe, an assist, eight aces and seven digs; and sophomore Tyler Hebert, five aces and two digs.

Rebecca Taylor led Patterson with a point, three digs and a kill; Carissa Fontenot added three aces and two points; and Nyria Robinson had two points and two kills.

In junior varsity action, Morgan City won 25-9, 25-13.

Sophomore Brandi Ingram had three kills, two assists, two aces and five digs for Morgan City, while Hebert added four kills, an assist, two aces and two digs. Junior Taylor Prince added a kill, seven assists and three aces, while junior Layne Reynaud added three assists, three aces and a dig.

For Patterson, Gaylen Grogan had two blocks and a kill; Arian Grogan added two kills; and Nia Madise had two points and two aces.

Patterson will return to action Thursday when it hosts Beau Chene. Junior varsity action will begin at 4:30 p.m. followed by varsity play.

Morgan City will continue play today in a makeup game on the road against E.D. White. Freshmen, junior varsity and varsity action will be played with freshmen play beginning at 3:30 p.m.

While the game was the first for Patterson this season, it was the fifth for Morgan City as the Lady Tigers participated in the Assumption Tournament Saturday.

The Lady Tigers finished 1-3 at the tournament with losses against H.L. Bourgeois (25-18, 25-18), University Lab (25-21, 25-18) and Brusly (25-21, 22-25, 15-12), while MCHS defeated South Terrebonne (21-25, 25-22, 15-13).

Against H.L. Bourgeois, Adams led Morgan City with two kills, two digs and eight assists, while Jones added three kills, two digs and a block. Hebert added three aces, two digs and two kills.

Against University, Bailey added two kills, three aces and four digs, while Adams added two kills, seven assists and a dig. Loupe also recorded seven digs.

In the win against South Terrebonne, Jones recorded three kills, one ace, one block and 10 digs; Bailey added four kills, an ace and 12 digs; Reynaud with 15 assists and seven digs; and Loupe, nine digs.

In the loss to Brusly, Jones had seven kills, 12 digs, one ace and one block, while KloƩ Liner added six kills and three digs. Other MCHS stat contributors included Reynaud, 18 assists; and Bailey, seven digs and a kill.

CCHS falls at home

Central Catholic (0-1) dropped its season opener to H.L. Bourgeois at home Tuesday, 25-20, 25-23, 25-22.

Leading statistical leaders for CCHS included Meo Knight, nine kills, four digs, a solo block and two block assists; Brie Hill, 11 kills and one ace, dig and solo block apiece; Caroline Byrne, two kills, 21 assists, an ace and five digs; Gee Garrett, six kills, four solo blocks and a block assist; Maria Templet, an ace and 11 digs; Abbie Bergeron, 10 digs; and Megan Landry, a kill, a block assist and seven digs.

The Lady Eagles will return to action Thursday when they open play in the H.L. Bourgeois Tournament.
