MCHS to take on Lakeshore today

The Morgan City High School Lady Tigers will continue its playoff journey today with a second round match against another familiar opponent.
Just like the Lady Tigers’ first-round opponent, No. 22 Belle Chasse, the No. 11 seed Lady Tigers played Lakeshore earlier this season.
While the Lady Tigers defeated Belle Chasse both in the regular season and Friday in the first round of the Division 2 playoffs by identical 6-0 scores, Morgan City fell in its matchup to Lakeshore earlier this season, 3-0, in Morgan City.
Lakeshore (12-8-1), the No. 6 seed, received a bye in the first round and will host today’s matchup at the Mandeville school at 5 p.m.
“They’re up there for a reason,” Morgan City coach Trevor Patterson said. “They’re a good team. Anybody from that Northshore, Mandeville area has a good squad. ... It’s going to be a big challenge for them and hopefully the girls are prepared.”
There’s also the challenge of getting past the second round, something Morgan City (15-11-2) has never done in its soccer program’s history.
Like last year’s second-round matchup against Ursuline at Pan-American Stadium in New Orleans, Morgan City again will be playing on artificial turf on a wider field.
Despite Lakeshore’s ranking, Patterson said his squad has done well against teams of that caliber.
“We’ve played teams just as good as Lakeshore and we’ve had good results,” he said.
Lakeshore coach Amanda Harvie said there is a “friendly relationship” between the two squads, who also played last year.
“We have a lot of respect for the coaches and the program,” she said.
Morgan City enters today’s matchup following a scoring onslaught against Belle Chasse. Sophomore Celeste Williams recorded a hat trick in the victory, while sophomore Sarah Patterson recorded two goals and senior Ashley Rock added another.
