MCHS splits district contests with Ellender
The Morgan City Tigers split their two weekend District 8-4A contests with Ellender Memorial.
After the Tigers fell 11-7 Friday, they responded with a 16-3 victory Saturday.
Josh Glatter earned the win Saturday as he struck out six; Brady Fryou finished 2-for-2 with a triple; Ryan Veillion, 2-for-3, a double and a triple; and Glatter, a single and a double.
No other individual statistics were available from Saturday’s game and no stats were available from Friday’s contest.
Morgan City (10-11 overall, 3-3 in District 8-4A) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to Bourg to face South Terrebonne. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
in Patterson win
Patterson’s Spencer Landry tossed a complete game with 15 strikeouts and drove in four at the plate to lead the Patterson Lumberjacks to a 17-0 run-rule victory against Abbeville in six innings Saturday.
In six innings, Landry surrendered three hits.
At the plate, he finished 3-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs to lead a plethora of Lumberjacks who turned in solid at-bats.
Patterson scored five runs in the first inning and plated three more combined during the next four innings before erupting for nine runs in the top of the sixth inning for the win.
Patterson cranked out 20 hits with five players collecting three.
Besides Landry, Dallas Hamlett finished 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, two runs and two stolen bases; and Cameron Fontenot finished 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and three runs.
Taylor Harris added a 3-for-5 performance with two RBIs and a run, while Brennan Gouaux finished 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Other top contributors included Bryce Tabor, 2-for-4, a double, an RBI and a run; Micah Gowan, 1-for-1, an RBI and a run; and Deondre Skinner and Bobby Jennings, each 1-for-4, an RBI and a run.
Patterson will return action Wednesday when it plays Central Catholic at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux. The game will pit two opposing head coaches who are also brothers, Patterson’s Ryan Jensen and Central Catholic’s Tyler Jensen.
Central Catholic defeats
Central Catholic scored five unanswered runs to defeat Ascension Catholic, 5-2, in non-district play Saturday.
Ascension Catholic plated two runs in the top of the first, and the score remained the same until the bottom of the third when the Eagles responded with three runs for a 3-2 lead.
Central Catholic added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
Samuel Guarisco earned the complete game victory as he surrendered two earned runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out three.
Also for Central Catholic, Barron Courtney finished 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and a run for Central Catholic; Nick Case, 2-for-3, a double and an RBI; Tyler Hoffpauir, 1-for-3, an RBI and a stolen base; and Austin Autin, 1-for-3, a double.
The win was the fourth straight for Central Catholic (14-7 overall, 5-0 in District 8-1A). The Eagles will resume District 8-1A play Tuesday when it travels to take on Vermilion Catholic in a 6 p.m. contest.
The Berwick Panthers fell to Vandebilt Catholic, 12-0, Saturday in non-district action in Berwick.
Vandebilt Catholic plated three runs in the first inning, three in the third inning, four in the fifth inning and three more in the top of the seventh for the win.
Berwick’s Brannon Melancon was tagged with the loss. In 3.1 innings, he surrendered five runs -- three earned -- on seven hits. He struck out four, walked one and hit a batter.
Brooks Richard led the Panthers at the plate with a 2-for-2 performance, while Neal Theriot, Seth Lejeune and Brandon Fryou each finished 1-for-1.
Vandebilt outhit Berwick 12-5, with all five of Berwick’s hits being singles.
The Panthers also committed four errors.
Berwick (11-11 overall 2-4 in District 9-3A action) will return to district play action Tuesday when it travels to Kaplan for a 5 p.m. contest.
