MCHS soccer places 4 on All-Freshmen teams
MORGAN CITY — The Morgan City Lady Tigers and Tigers each were represented on the Division II All-Freshmen soccer teams.
The Lady Tigers’ Hannah Toups and Shawn Guillot were named to the girls’ first team, while Trevor Beam and Forest Gros were named to the boys’ second team.
Toups was a versatile player for the Lady Tigers this season as she played goalie, midfield and forward.
“She scored goals for us and also stopped goals being scored on us,” Morgan City coach Trevor Patterson said.
Patterson predicted that Toups will become one of the district’s best players before she graduates.
Like Toups, Guillot also played multiple positions for the Lady Tigers during her freshman season. She began the season as a forward and was playing midfield by season’s end.
“She has a lot of speed and endurance with her, which really benefited our team,” Patterson said. “She will be a great asset to the team the next three years.”
Patterson said both Toups and Guillot play travel soccer, Toups as a goalie and Guillot as a midfielder.
Toups and Guillot were named second-team and honorable mention, respectively, on the Division 2, District 8 squad earlier this offseason.
Beam and Gros both started on defense for the Tigers.
Patterson said Beam was used as a midfielder, too.
“He has a lot of speed which helped us with the counter attacks,” Patterson said. “He will be a great asset to the team in the upcoming years.”
Of the speedy Gros, Patterson said, “He played generally as a right back and really helped out shutting down the left flank. Gros will also be a great asset to the team.”
Both Beam and Gros were honored earlier this season as honorable mention selections on the Division 2, District 8 squad.
