MCHS falls to Vandebilt

The Morgan City High Tiger and Lady Tiger soccer teams fell to ranked Vandebilt Catholic squads in district action in Houma on Tuesday.

In the boys’ matchup, the Tigers fell 2-1 to the Terriers, while the Lady Tigers were shut out 7-0.

MCHS Tiger coach Jorge Hernandez said his squad had its best performance of the season in the loss against the No. 7-ranked Terriers, one of the state’s traditional soccer powers.

After a scoreless first half, the Tigers put the first points on the board on a Victor Cerritos goal for a 1-0 lead.

The Terriers responded with a goal and then, just before the end of the game, knocked in a second shot for the win.

In the Lady Tigers loss to No. 1-ranked Vandebilt Catholic, MCHS coach Trevor Patterson said his squad was “outclassed and outplayed.”

“The Lady Terriers have so much talent on and off the bench; that’s what makes them No. 1,” Patterson said.

In other soccer action, the Lady Tigers defeated E.D. White, 3-1, in district play Friday.

Shannon Theriot put the Lady Tigers on the board first via a penalty kick in the 26th minute.

In the second half, EDW tied the score at 1, but in the 58th minute, Carmen Araujo scored to put the Tigers back in the lead.

Four minutes later, the Tigers iced the game via a Sarah Patterson free kick from 20 yards out.

Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers begin the second round of district play Friday at South Terrebonne.
