MCHS downs Ellender on senior night

Morgan City’s soccer teams took a break from district play last week with games against Lutcher.

The Lady Tigers lost 8-5, allowing three goals in the first 12 minutes of play.

Sarah Patterson scored MCHS’ first goal in the 16th minute and Shannon Theriot added another in the 32nd minute but the Lady Tigers trailed 4-2 at halftime.

Sarina Morales scored quickly in the second half and Carmen Araujo added a goal in the 48th to tie the game. Theriot then gave MCHS the lead in the 50th minute but Lutcher stormed back to take an 8-5 win.

In the boys game, Victor Cerritos scored a hat trick in a 3-2 win over Lutcher.

The Tigers had to come from behind twice in the game to take the win with Cerritos’ goals in seventh, 43rd and 76th minutes.

On Friday, the Tigers returned home and it was senior night.

On the boys team, Austin Stroud, Oscar Hinojosa, Seth Menard, T.J. Oubre and Travis Romero have led the team as seniors. On the girls side, Reina Fernandez and Sarina Morales are seniors.

The boys faced Ellender and picked up a 3-0 win.

Cerritos had a hat trick for the second straight game with goals in the 13th, 31st and 75th minutes.

The Lady Tigers also won, but in much more dominant fashion — 12-0.

Theriot scored first in the second minute, Celeste Williams scored a hat trick with goals in the fifth, 27th and 52nd minutes, Sarah Patterson scored in the 26th, Jennifer Nguyen scored in the 74th, Morales hit the back of the net in the 15th, Fernandez scored in the 12th and 36th minutes and Araujo also had a hat trick with goals in the 56th, 62nd and 67th minute.

Morgan City’s goalie touched the ball just three times in the win.
