MCHS Class of 1958 holds 55-year reunion
Morgan City High School Class of 1958 held its 55-year reunion April 19 to 21. The class has held a reunion every five years since 1968 making this year’s the 10th one held.
Events for the weekend get-together included a Gals of ’58 luncheon at the Holiday Inn, Saturday and Sunday breakfasts at the Holiday Inn, Friday night supper at the Holiday Inn, and the Saturday reunion and program at the Petroleum Club of Morgan City.
Highlights of the reunion included a welcome speech by class president Carole Webster Arcemont, invocation by Carol Joy Dupre, remarks by master of ceremonies Whybra Duay, a memorial of deceased classmates by Jerry Cunningham and Marjorie Verrett Barker, a financial report by Flavia Verrett Lancon, a humorous song by Shirley Sherrill Treppendahl, and a humorous essay titled “Then and Now” by Barker. A skit by Gail Gougenheim Christy, Brenda Shirley Gebhart, Eloise Cloutier Verret, Priscilla Hebert Sampey and David Rosson depicted an “over-the-hill” group of dancers and singers performing to songs from the ’50s.
Special guests for the night were introduced by John Robert Bigler. They were Oswald Melancon, former guidance counselor and Calvin Bourgeois, former band director.
Recognition was given to all classmates who have attended all 10 reunions; also to the youngest classmate, Carolyn Soumeillan Walls, and to the classmate celebrating her birthday on April 20, Elaine Beadle Voisin.
