MCHS, CCHS finish the weekend 1-1
Morgan City and Central Catholic both split their weekend matches Saturday, the final day of the prep volleyball regular season.
Morgan City defeated Ascension Catholic 3-1 but fell to Newman 3-0 in both games at Newman, while Central Catholic fell to St. Joseph’s Academy but defeated Assumption at the Episcopal School of Acadiana “Spooktacular” Tournament.
In Morgan City’s action, the Lady Tigers defeated Ascension Catholic 18-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-17.
Katelyn Adams led the Lady Tigers with an outstanding stat line of six kills, two block assists, 23 assists, eight digs, three aces and two blocks, while Marilynn Bailey contributed four aces, 12 digs, four kills and an assist.
Other top Morgan City performers included Savannah Loupe, three aces and an impressive 25 digs; Ariel Trimm, two aces, five kills and four digs; Elizabeth Esteban, five digs and an assist; Brandi Ingram, 10 digs; and Alexandra Thompson, two block assists, a dig and a block.
Against Newman, the Lady Tigers fell 9-25, 13-25, 14-25.
Adams recorded three kills, 16 assists, four digs and an ace, while Jaiveianna Jones pitched in seven kills, two blocks and a dig.
Other top contributors for Morgan City included Loupe, 15 digs; and May Grogan, five kills and a dig.
As for Central Catholic, the squad fell to St. Joseph’s Academy, 26-28, 14-25 but defeated Assumption, 25-23, 29-27.
No statistics were available from either match.
Because they both finished in the top two in their district standings, Central Catholic and Morgan City received automatic berths to the Division 5 and Division 2 high school volleyball playoffs, respectively.
Both will learn their seeding when the brackets are released today.
