MC native Williams will appear on 'Unique Sweets'
Morgan City native David Williams, son of Junior and Cheryl Williams, will appear on the Cooking Channel’s “Unique Sweets” Sunday at 9:30 p.m.
The segment is called “Afterschool Favorites,” and will showcase a few of Williams’ recipes, go behind the scenes at his café and also feature an interview.
Williams is a graphic designer who left corporate America to pursue his passion in candy making. He started playing around with recipes and recreated a grocery chain’s holiday caramel, which he couldn’t find anywhere.
Using mostly organic ingredients — and no refined sugars or corn syrup — he finally perfected his original sweet treat – Sea Salted Dark Chocolate-Covered Caramels. He started selling them at a local antique shop and later at a few local coffee shops, and the demand grew.
In summer 2010 he opened his own coffee and sweet shop, Hooker’s Sweet Treats, in San Francisco, Calif. The inspiration for Hooker’s Sweet Treats — other than simply the caramels — was the idea of “bringing a little bit of home here,” Williams said. “The menu happened organically, making things I really enjoyed growing up,” like peanut butter cookies and his mother’s bread pudding. He introduced his new chocolate known as 3rd Nut Caramels on The Martha Stewart Holiday Show in December 2011.
Williams is the sole owner of Hooker’s Sweet Treats. The menu features his Sea Salted Dark Chocolate-Covered Caramels, 3rd Nut Caramels, New Orleans Style Bread Pudding, Assorted Cookies, Sweet Cheddar Biscuits, and artisan coffee. His chocolates are also available for online shopping at hookerssweettreats.com.
