MC Council, committee to meet
The City of Morgan City will hold three meetings during the next two days, all in the second floor conference room at City Hall.
Tuesday, the city’s Health Insurance Committee will meet at 10 a.m. to discuss a review of its quarterly report from its health insurance provider, Blue Cross BlueShield of Louisiana.
Later Tuesday at 6 p.m., the full council will meet to discuss any appeal for the condemnation of a portion of the Guarisco-Evans Shopping Center between Medicine Shoppe and Mike’s Flooring & Paint, which the city plans to condemn and demolish after failed attempts to get the property’s owner, Anthony Guarisco Jr. of Baton Rouge, to make necessary repairs.
If no action is taken by the owner at the public hearing, the building will be demolished, and the cost will be tacked on to Guarisco’s annual tax bill.
The council also will consider a cooperative endeavor agreement with the parish for phase 3 of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard work. The city has received $1.45 million in state funding through the Community Development Block program. The parish has agreed to act as an agent for the city to facilitate the construction and funding of this project. The work will include the remaining portion of the roadway that was not previously resurfaced — from the Comfort Inn & Suites entrance to La. 182.
On Wednesday at 5 p.m., city leaders will meet for its 2012 budget workshop to discuss the spending plan for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins Jan. 1.
All of these meetings are open to the public.
