Mayon brothers will be featured in Friday concert

A free concert sponsored by The St. Mary Arts and Humanities Council featuring local pianist Adam Mayon and his brother, trumpeter Alex Mayon, will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Bethel Pentecostal Church, on Tiffany Street in Patterson.

Adam, a senior at Loyola University in New Orleans, is studying piano performance and will graduate summa cum laude in May. He has won many prestigious awards and will present a program of works by Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmanioff and others. He will attend Eastman School of Music in the fall on a full teaching scholarship.

The recipient of the Theodore Presser Scholarship this year and an Ignatian Scholar, Adam performed for the National Conference of Keyboard Pedagogy in Chicago in 2011 and was a guest performer at the French Quarter Festival in New Orleans. He is a member of the Music Teachers National Association Collegiate Chapter, pianist for the Loyola Wind Ensemble and served as the piano hand double for Zac Efron in the recently released movie, “The Lucky One.” He also was a member of the Loyola track and cross-country team.

Alex, also an award-winning student in music education, is a junior at Loyola. He will present a trumpet concerto and is the principal trumpet player for the Loyola Wind Ensemble and Orchestra.

Also an Ignatian Scholar, he won the Loyola Concerto and Aria Competition in the fall semester. A member of the Loyola honors program with a 3.97 GPA, he is also a member of Phi Eta Sigma, was named the Outstanding Brass Student and received the 2012 International Trumpet Guild Conference Scholarship. He also was a member of the Loyola cross-country and track team.

The program for the evening includes:

—Sonata No. 24 in F-sharp Major, by Ludwig van Beethoven.

—Étude in A-flat Major, Opus 10, No. 10, by Frederic Chopin.

—Sonata in E-flat, Opus 26, by Samuel Barber.

—Concerto in D Major, by Giuseppe Tartini.

—Conert Étude, Opus 40, No. 8, by Nikolai Kapustin.

-—Miroirs, “Une barque sur l’océan,” by Maurice Ravel.

—Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, by Sergei Rachmaninoff.
