Matilda “Tee” Aloisio died on June 4, 2012 at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City. Born on December 18, 1921 and a native and resident of Patterson, she was 90 years old.

Tee is survived by her sisters, Rosemary Cutrera of Morgan City and Catherine Piro of Mandeville; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Guy and Wanda Aloisio of Patterson; Rosario and Frances Aloisio of Lafayette and Jimmie and Verdie Aloisio of Bayou Vista.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosario Aloisio Sr. and Maria Rizzuto Aloisio; sisters, Anna Rizzuto, Angelina Gianfala, Jennie Tringali and Josie Stansbury; and brother, Leonard “Bull” Aloisio.

After graduating from Patterson High School in 1940, she received an AAA rating as a welder and aided in the war effort by working for Chicago Bridge and Iron in Morgan City. She later went on to work at building and maintaining her own rental properties; operating an Esso gas station on Main Street in Patterson; and running a taxi service, an ice cream and snowball truck, and a grass cutting service. She also drove a school bus for St. Mary Parish for many years.

As a public servant, Tee served as an Alderman on the Patterson Town Council and was the first woman to serve on the St. Mary Parish Police Jury. She remains today the only woman elected to that position and was always known as a woman ahead of her time.

In 1963, Tee was awarded a prestigious Carnegie Hero Award after she rescued a city gas worker from a fire in Patterson.

She grew up with her large family on Williams Street in Patterson. Following the example of her parents, she came to be known as a hard worker and a kind soul and has long been known for her acts of kindness and service to family members, friends and even strangers in need. Family members wish to thank those who reciprocated with acts of kindness, attentiveness and other support to Tee during her later years. The family also offers special thanks to her loyal caregivers of Esther Richardson and Carol Polidore.

Visiting will be held at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1011 First Street, Patterson. Public visitation is scheduled on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, from 8:30 to 11 a.m., with a Mass of Christian burial to follow. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Father Donavan Labbe’ will officiate the services.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Thibodaux, Guy Aloisio Jr., Gordon Aloisio, Lucien Cutrera Jr., Mike Marlette and Mike Accardo. Honorary pallbearers will be Ms. Aloisio’s brothers, Guy, Jimmie and Rosario Aloisio.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Tee’s name to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, P.O. Box 210, Patterson, La. 70392.
