MORGAN CITY, La. -- Marine Corps League, St. Mary Detachment, will hold the 12th edition of its Toys for Tots Motorcycle Poker Run on Oct. 27. A Poker Run Motorcycle Bike Show will be part of this year’s offering.
Poker run participants automatically have their motorcycles entered for the bike show. Entry into the poker run is not necessary to enter a bike in the show.
The poker run will begin and end at Daiquiri & Company at 7550 La. 182 (Eastgate Shopping Center) in Morgan City. The bike show will be held in the shopping center parking lot.
Poker run pre-registration is under way through 5 p.m. Oct. 23. Anyone taking advantage of early registration will receive a poker run T-shirt. Cost to enter, even on the day of the race, is $20 for the bike, $15 for a passenger, plus a new unwrapped toy that is to be brought to the poker run.
Walk-in registration will be held from 7 to 9 a.m. The poker run will begin at 9 a.m. and end with last bike in at 1 p.m.
All participants will be treated to café au lait and beignets for breakfast, and a poker run barbecue ticket.
Poker run prizes are $200 for first place, $100 for second, $75 for third and $25 for the worst hand. Money participants must be 18 or older.
Bike show entry is $20 per bike, plus an unwrapped new toy that is to be brought to the event. Show registration is from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 27. Judging will take place at 3 p.m. with trophies awarded at 4 p.m.
“We will probably have $1 million worth in motorcycles,” said Bill Goessl, St. Mary Detachment Toys for Tots coordinator. “The public should come out and look at the bikes.”
The public is welcome to participate in the day’s festivities that will include a Toys for Tots kick-off featuring a live radio remote, live music from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m., and a barbecue lunch sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Barbecue lunch tickets are $8 and include pulled pork, sausage, chicken, rice dressing, cole slaw and dessert.
Bike show categories include American and metric divisions; cruiser, sport and radical with stock and custom classes; and rat bike and trike classes. There will be awards for first and second places, best of show, best paint and best engine.
Funds raised and toys collected will be used by the St. Mary Detachment to help fulfill the wish lists of local children during Christmas.
