Man arrested on warrants after being found at boat landing
A 28-year-old Bayou Vista man was arrested Tuesday by a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s deputy on drug court warrants after the deputy responded to a report of two suspicious men at a boat landing off La. 317, according to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert.
Chad Kirkland, of Mars Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 3:17 a.m. Tuesday on warrants for failure to comply with the terms and conditions of drug court on drug charges including possession of hydrocodone and possession of amphetamine. A deputy responded to a report of two suspicious men at the Cabot Boat Landing off La. 317, according to Hebert. The deputy made contact with the two men, one of whom was identified as Kirkland. During the investigation, Kirkland gave the deputy a fake name in an attempt to avoid arrest on the warrants, Hebert stated. Kirkland was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests:
—A juvenile male, 13, of Bayou Vista, was arrested at 9:43 a.m. Monday for runaway juvenile, curfew violation and theft of a bicycle. A deputy received a complaint of a runaway juvenile after the teen left his residence around midnight and had not returned home. The deputy located the juvenile on Clarke Road. The teenager stated that he had been riding a bicycle that he took from the corner of Saturn and Southwest roads. The juvenile was released to the custody of a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
—Russell Walker Jr., 28, of Mallard Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:23 p.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear on traffic offenses including operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving under suspension. A deputy was notified by the Morgan City Police Department that Walker had been arrested on the warrant. His bail is set at $1,500. He remains in jail at the Morgan City Police Department jail.
Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrests:
—Kelly Hamilton, 30, and Jessica Beth Lucas, 20, of La. 182 East in Morgan City, were arrested at 2:26 a.m. Monday for disturbing the peace by fighting. While patrolling, officers came upon two people fighting outside of Solar Apartments. Officers broke up the fight, and took Hamilton and Lucas to jail. Both were released on $492 bail.
—Stephanie Aucoin, 43, of La. 182 East in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:15 p.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear to pay a fine for open container. While at Solar Apartments investigating an incident, officers ran a warrant check on Aucoin and found that she was wanted. She was taken to the police department and released on $381 bail.
—A 15-year-old female juvenile was arrested at 2:34 p.m. Monday for runaway juvenile. Morgan City police received a complaint of a runaway juvenile on Friday. Officers received information from concerned citizens, and then enlisted the assistance of the Berwick Police Department. Officers located the runaway juvenile on Oregon Street in Berwick, at a playground. The juvenile was taken to the Morgan City Police Department and released to her mother.
—Donna Marie Davidson, 53, of Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 2:10 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear for possession of drug paraphernalia. Davidson was located by Berwick police after they checked warrants and discovered that she was wanted by Morgan City police, Crouch stated. Morgan City police picked up Davidson from Berwick police. Davidson was taken to jail and being held on $1,000 bail.
—Rolando Vargas, 27, of Spruce Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday for possession of tobacco product in a correctional facility. While making a cell block check, Morgan City Police Department corrections officers found Vargas smoking a cigarette in his cell, Crouch stated. No bail information was available.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Jeff Sellers, 41, of Second Street in Berwick, was arrested at 1 p.m. Monday on warrants for careless operation with a crash, and hit and run driving. Sellers was released on bail.
—Bannon Canty, 42, of Fourth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 12:07 p.m. Monday for resisting an officer by giving false information, resisting an officer by flight and on warrants for probation and parole. Canty was taken to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville with no bail set.
Missing teen found
A 15-year-old Morgan City girl, who had been reported missing Monday, was found safe Tuesday, according to Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch.
Prior to being found, Keiarra Paddio, 15, of Morgan City, had last been seen in the area of Freret Street in Morgan City in the early evening on Friday, Crouch stated.
U.S. 90 wreck blamed on texting
BERWICK — A 2008 Ford Explorer flipped over and left the roadway on U.S. 90 West near Thorguson Road in Berwick on Monday night after the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle while texting, resulting in the single-vehicle crash, according to Berwick Police Chief James Richard.
Ginny Tabor, 32, of Thibodaux, the driver of the vehicle, was taken to Teche Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, Richard said.
Police responded to a report of an overturned vehicle around 9:30 p.m. Monday.
Tabor told officers she had been texting at the time of the crash, Richard said. Tabor was cited for texting while driving and careless operation.
Police also suspect Tabor may have been drunk while she was driving, and are waiting on the results of a blood-alcohol content test, Richard said.
