Man arrested on a warrant for domestic abuse battery

A 42-year-old Ricohoc man was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for domestic abuse battery, according to Sheriff Mark Hebert.

Mikel J. Ashley, of Calumet Cut Lane in Ricohoc, was arrested at 8:47 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for domestic abuse battery. Ashley was located at his residence on the warrant.

The warrant stems from an April 14 incident. A deputy responded to a residence on Calumet Cut Lane in reference to a disturbance. During investigation, the deputy learned that Ashley hit a 43-year-old woman multiple times, according to Hebert. At one point during the disturbance, Ashley slammed the victim’s head against a wall, Hebert stated.

The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment and a warrant was issued for Ashley’s arrest.

He was taken to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center Wednesday and held. No bail is set.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests:

—Shantell D. Gant, 43, of Cleveland Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:16 a.m. Wednesday on a bench warrant for failure to appear as a witness. Gant was located at the parish courthouse in Franklin on the warrant. She was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set.

—James Tarleton Jr., 19, of Taft Street in Patterson, was arrested at 7:19 p.m. Wednesday for possession of marijuana. On Wednesday, sheriff’s office narcotics detectives were patrolling the Bayou Vista area when they observed a vehicle fail to signal properly prior to turning into the parking lot of a gas station located on La. 182. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and met with the driver who was identified as Tarleton. Detectives received consent to search the vehicle and located marijuana, Hebert stated. Tarleton was released on a summons to appear in court on Aug. 23.

Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrests:

—Two 16-year-old male juveniles were arrested at 1:44 p.m. Wednesday for disturbing the peace by fighting.

Morgan City police responded to a complaint of two people who had been involved in a fight. Officers located the juveniles at Morgan City High School and were advised by school personnel that they had been involved in a fist fight. Both were taken to the police department and released to their parents pending juvenile proceedings.

—A 16-year-old male juvenile was arrested at 2:11 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for second degree battery.

He was located in the city court building by detectives. The juvenile was wanted on an outstanding warrant, which stems from an investigation into an attack which resulted in injuries to another. The juvenile was booked and released to a guardian pending juvenile proceedings.

—Christopher Caruso, 24, of Fig Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:43 p.m. Wednesday for remaining on premises after being forbidden.

Morgan City police received a complaint from a Fig Street resident who advised that Caruso was on the property without permission and refused to leave. Caruso had been previously ordered by officers not to return to the residence or he would be subject to arrest, Crouch stated. Caruso was located at the residence when officers arrived. He was taken to the city jail and remains in jail with a cash bail.

—Cory Chapman, 48, of Oak Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday for theft and resisting an officer after Morgan City police received a complaint of a shoplifter at a local business located on La. 182.

When officers arrived, they encountered Chapman, who was identified by store employees as the person involved in the theft of about $100 worth of items, Crouch stated. When officers attempted to detain Chapman, he fled on foot, according to Crouch. Officers eventually captured and subdued Chapman. He was taken to the city jail where he remains with a cash bail.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
