Man arrested for simple and aggravated cruelty to animals

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests:

—Robert Gros, 43, of Nini Lane in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:21 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant from Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office for disturbing the peace by using foul language and criminal mischief. Gros was located at the parish courthouse in Franklin on the warrant. He was later taken to another jurisdiction.

—Claudea Avila, 25, of Lake Palourde Road in Amelia, was arrested at 10:26 a.m. Wednesday for careless operation and operating a vehicle without lawful presence in the United States. A deputy responded to a two-vehicle crash on Waterworks Road in Amelia. During the investigation, the deputy learned that Avila did not have a valid driver’s license or ID and was in the United States illegally. She was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set.

—Brandon Michael Leblanc, 27, of Ditch Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:25 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for theft less than $500. A deputy located Leblanc on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista on the warrant. He was taken to the parish jail and held. His bail is set at $1,000.

Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrests:

—Curtis Ledrell Williams, 30, of Franklin, was arrested at 3:26 a.m. Wednesday for appearing intoxicated in public, possession of schedule II controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Morgan City Police Department received a complaint of a person trying to enter into an occupied apartment on Apple Street. Officers arrived to investigate and found Williams at the back door of an apartment on Apple Street. Williams appeared highly intoxicated, according to Crouch. The owner of the apartment told officers he did not know Williams. He also said Williams did not have permission to be on his property. Williams was also found to possess, upon his arrest, a cellophane bag which contained suspected cocaine along with paraphernalia, according to Crouch. Williams was taken to the city jail and remains in jail on $12,500 bail.

—Robert C. Broussard, 59, of Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:11 a.m. Wednesday for simple and aggravated cruelty to animals.

Officers were dispatched to a vacant residence on Arkansas Street which was to be condemned. They found two German shepherd dogs living inside the residence. The animals were living in unsanitary conditions and in poor condition, according to Crouch. Broussard was identified as the owner of the animals.

Broussard told officers he had been too busy to tend to the animals. Broussard was taken to the city jail. He was released after posting a $692 bail. The animals were recovered and transported to the parish animal shelter.

—Albert Minor Jackson, 63, of Brownell Homes in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:52 a.m. Wednesday for careless operation, possession of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic fashion on Brashear Avenue in Morgan City. The vehicle was stopped and the driver identified as Jackson. Jackson was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, and in possession of open containers of alcohol, the report stated. During the investigation, Jackson was also found to possess suspected marijuana during a search of his vehicle along with paraphernalia, according to Crouch. Jackson was taken to the city jail where he remains on a cash bail.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:

—James Jones, 28, of Camille Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 1:17 a.m. today for criminal damage to property, unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and on warrants from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. Jones is being held with no bail set.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
