Man arrested for failing to register as sex offender
MORGAN CITY, La. -- St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 48 complaints in the parish during a 24-hour period and reported the following arrests in East St. Mary Parish:
—Eddie Lee Brown IV, 40, of the 1300 block of Joseph Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to register and notify as a sex offender.
In 2006, Brown was convicted in St. Mary Parish of carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Brown failed to meet sex offender registration and notification requirements. He turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City. Brown was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set.
—Michelle Castro, 18, of the 100 block of Buckers Court in Pierre Part, was arrested at 1:57 p.m. Wednesday for theft of goods. A deputy responded to a report of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. Upon arrival, the deputy learned from store personnel that Castro was seen placing items in her purse without paying for the goods. Castro was released on a summons to appear in court on Dec. 11.
—George Harvey III, 31, of the 500 block of Leona Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:01 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for theft less than $500. A deputy was notified that Morgan City police held Harvey who had an active warrant for the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. The warrant stems from an investigation into the theft of a mobile phone. Harvey was charged on the warrant and released to Morgan City police to be held.
—Barbara Russel, 40, of the 6600 block of La. 182 in Franklin, was arrested at 4:54 p.m. Wednesday for theft of goods and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of theft of goods.
A deputy responded to a report of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. Upon arrival, the deputy learned from store personnel that Russel was seen placing items in her purse, Hebert said. Russel then attempted to leave the store without paying for the items. She was taken to the parish jail and held. She was released on $3,500 bail.
—Shanay Dominique Griffin, 23, of the 400 block of Morrison Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:37 p.m. Wednesday for disturbing the peace by using foul language. A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance at the drive-thru of a fast food restaurant in Bayou Vista. The deputy learned that Griffin directed profane language at restaurant employees. Griffin was taken to the parish jail and held. She was released on $500 bail.
—Gerard Deshotel, 41, of the 200 block of Lake Palourde Road in Amelia, was arrested at 10:43 p.m. Wednesday for domestic abuse battery. A deputy responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence on Lake Palourde Road. During the course of the investigation, the deputy learned that Deshotel struck a woman in the face with his hand. Deshotel was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set.
—Sky Leger Sr., 32, of the 1200 block of Garber Road in Broussard, was arrested at 4:48 a.m. today for possession of schedule I synthetic marijuana, abuse of toxic vapors, and possession of drug paraphernalia. A deputy patrolling the Amelia area observed a man walking on Cargil Road and made contact with him. The man was identified as Leger. After receiving consent to search his person, the deputy located a pipe and synthetic cannabinoids on Leger, Hebert said. He was taken to the parish jail and held. Bail is set at $4,500.
Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrest:
—Aketa Raquel Francis, 21, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:17 a.m. Wednesday on warrants for two counts of failure to pay a fine for contempt of court, failure to pay a fine for disturbing the peace, and a drug court violation.
Officers investigating a complaint in the area of Egle Street encountered Francis who was found to be wanted on outstanding warrants for City Court as well as St. Mary Parish Drug Court. Francis was taken to the Morgan City Police Department and remains in jail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Jasmine Guillory, 17, of the 500 block of Leo Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 8:16 p.m. Wednesday for criminal mischief and is being held on $286 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
