Man arrested for aggravated battery

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests:

—Floyd Ruffin, 27, of Cypress, Texas, was arrested at 3:24 a.m. Sunday for aggravated battery. A deputy was flagged down on Lake Palourde Road in Morgan City by a female who stated that several males were chasing another male. The deputy located the males and, during the investigation, determined that Ruffin threw a beer bottle at someone before leaving T’s Lounge. Ruffin was taken to the parish jail and held. He was released on $2,500 bail.

—Mark Anthony Starks, 37, of Barrow Street in Amelia, was arrested at 2:58 p.m. Friday on a warrant for theft. A deputy located Starks at his residence on the warrant. He was taken to the parish jail and held. Starks was released on a $1,000 bail.

—Renaldo Castro, 29, of Cajun Way in Amelia, was arrested at 7:36 p.m. Friday for possession of schedule I (synthetic cannabinoids), possession of drug paraphernalia, obstruction of justice and misuse of toxic vapors. A deputy patrolling the Amelia area responded to a complaint of illegal drug activity at America’s Best Value Hotel. The deputy made contact with Castro who gave consent to search his room. In the tank of the toilet the deputy located a bag of synthetic cannabinoids and items of drug paraphernalia. Castro was taken to the parish jail and held. He was released on a $5,500 bail.

—Grant Lagarde, 27, of Chitimacha Loop in Charenton, was arrested Friday for driving while intoxicated, improper lane usage, open container, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. A deputy patrolling the Amelia area observed a vehicle on U.S. 90 cross the center line and nearly strike another vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was identified as Lagarde. Upon making contact with Lagarde, the deputy detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath and person, the report stated, and Lagarde performed poorly on the field sobriety test. He later refused to submit to a breath test. Lagarde was taken to the parish jail and held. He was released on $7,500 bail.

—Anthony Frederick, 29, of Parrot Court in Gray, was arrested at 4:16 a.m. Saturday for disturbing the peace and resisting an officer. A deputy responded to a complaint of a suspicious person on Lake Palourde Road in Morgan City. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a person sitting in a vehicle, identified as Frederick. The deputy detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on him. While speaking with Frederick, he began to become agitated and began cursing at the deputy, the report stated. Frederick was taken to the parish jail and held. He was released on $1,250 bail.

—Murphy Green, 28, of Halsey Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:38 p.m. Friday for possession of schedule III (Lortab). Sheriff’s office narcotics division detectives patrolling the Baldwin area conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for improper parking in the roadway. Detectives observed the passenger, identified as Green, exit the vehicle and drop a baggie, which contained Lortab pills, the report stated. Green was placed under arrest and taken to parish jail and held. He was released on $7,500 bail.

Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrest:

—Kenneth Kiff, 29, of Red Cypress Road in Patterson, was arrested at 7:45 p.m. Monday for disturbing the peace.

Kiff was taken to jail and later released after posting $742 bail.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
