Man accused of carrying BB gun up Capitol steps
BATON ROUGE (AP) — Louisiana State Police said a Greenwell Springs man has been booked with resisting arrest after allegedly carrying a BB gun up the state Capitol steps and then running from the guard who took it.
Sgt. J.B. Slaton said Russell Vaughn, 32, allegedly ignored orders Wednesday to drop the gun, which guards thought was a rifle.
He said a guard took the gun, and Vaughn fled in a black Chrysler 300.
Slaton said East Baton Rouge Parish deputies arrested Vaughn on an unrelated charge Thursday, and state police were tipped that he’d had the BB gun.
Investigators verified that he owned a black Chrysler 300, then questioned him.
Online inmate records indicate that sheriff’s deputies booked Vaughn with simple assault.
Slaton said he doesn’t know whether Vaughn has an attorney.
