MADD ceremony is Monday
A special invitation from the parish MADD Chapter is going out to all who have been directly affected by a drunk driver to attend a “Light of Hope” observance ceremony at 6 p.m., Monday at the Teche Theater in Franklin.
A solemn time of recognition and remembrance will be observed for all of those who have had their lives affected forever by a drunk driver. The MADD Chapter encourages everyone whose life has been changed by a drunk driver to attend and light a candle in honor or memory of their loved one.
The “Top Cops” of St. Mary Parish and State Police Troop I will be recognized during the ceremony. These officers are recognized for their diligence and dedication for removing impaired drivers from local roads and highways.
State Sen. Bret Allain will deliver the keynote address at the ceremony. Allain formerly served on the I-49 Task Force; the Louisiana State Mineral Board and the Louisiana Agriculture Finance Authority.
Currently, he is vice chairman on the Agriculture Committee. He also serves on the Finance, Natural Resources, and Health and Welfare committees. He has also been appointed to the Select Committee on Coastal Restoration and Flood Control.
The local MADD Chapter is joining with cities and towns across America to promote the National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month Campaign, an initiative of the National Highway Safety Commission.
