Lumberjacks chop down another district opponent

Patterson’s football team continued its dominant run through District 9-3A with a 47-6 road win over Abbeville on Thursday night.
Trevon Stewart scored the first three touchdowns of the game for Patterson.
Stewart caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Justice Jones and added a 59-yard touchdown run later in the first quar-ter for a 13-0 lead.
With 10 minutes, 33 seconds left in the second quarter, the University of Houston commit rumbled 48 yards on a punt return to give the Lumberjacks a comfortable 20-0 lead.
Jones threw his second touchdown of the game midway through the second quarter on a 2-yard pass to Earl Andrews for a 26-0 halftime lead.
Two missed extra points were the only negative for the ’Jacks in the opening half.
Stewart found the end zone for the fourth time of the night early in the third quarter on a 26-yard touchdown run for the only score of the third quarter.
Stewart finished with a game-high 94 yards rushing on four carries with two touchdowns and 36 yards receiving on two catches with a touchdown.
Patterson coach Tommy Minton pulled his starters in the second half, but the Abbeville defense couldn’t keep the ’Jacks out of the end zone.
Denzel Johnson found Jaydrick Declouet early in the fourth quarter on a 15-yard pass for a 40-0 lead. Deontay Jones wrapped up the impressive win with a 1-yard run with 4:02 left in the game.
Declouet had two catches for 41 yards and a touchdown. Jones was 7-for-10 passing with 88 yards and two touchdowns and Johnson was efficient in the second half, going 2-for-2 passing with 31 yards and a touchdown.
Abbeville got on the scoreboard with less than a minute to play on a run by Clyde Mitchell. The Wildcats went for two but were denied by the hard-nosed Patterson defense.
Patterson will take a break from district play next week with a trip to Jeanerette before wrapping up the regular season with district games against Franklin and Erath.
