LPB to feature Tour Du Teche
Tour du Teche, an annual three-day ultramarathon for kayaks and canoes, helped to introduce an Emmy-winning TV series to lush and lovely Bayou Teche.
“Iberia Parish – The Hot Side of Cajun Country” will be featured on Louisiana Public Broadcasting’s LPB2 at 12:30 p.m. Thursday and at midnight Monday, June 17.
Part of the Go Coast: Louisiana series, the episode features host and executive producer Tom Gregory kayaking in Bayou Teche with the Tour du Teche community of racers, voyageurs and coureurs des bois (support crews).
Intended for eventual national public television distribution, the series follows Gregory as he travels the coast in search of the best in local food, music and adventure.
Tour du Teche came through with boiled crawfish and craft beer from Bayou Teche Brewing as well as an introduction to the zippy but tippy kayaks that dominate the popular flatwater race.
Gregory also visits the Tabasco Factory, New Iberia’s Main Street eateries and other Iberia Parish attractions.
Upcoming installments of Go Coast: Louisiana feature Calcasieu and Cameron, Jefferson, Vermilion, Lafourche and St. Tammany parishes.
Tour du Teche IV will be Oct. 4-6. The race starts in Port Barre, travels the length of Bayou Teche through four parishes, and ends up in Berwick on the Atchafalaya River.
