Louisiana Motor Transport Association holds annual safety banquet
BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Motor Transport Association held its 23rd Annual Safety Banquet at the Baton Rouge Marriott March 23.
Among those honored were the 2012 Great West Casualty Fleet Safety Award winners. The Great West Casualty Fleet Safety Awards recognize companies with outstanding safety records in various mileage categories in Louisiana.
Additionally, awards were presented to the company with the greatest improved safety record for 2012 compared to 2011 and the President’s Trophy for the company with the overall best record from all categories.
The 2012 Great West Fleet Safety Award winners for Louisiana, based on miles traveled in Louisiana, were:
—Under 1 milion miles: Arabie Trucking Services LLC, Thibodaux.
—1,000,001 to 3,000,000 miles: Brookshire Grocery Company, Tyoer, Texas; Groendyle Transport Inc., Enid, Okla.; Hercules Transport Inc., Choudrant; Winn Dixie Logistics, Hammond.
—3,000,001 to 6,000,000 miles: The Waggoners Trucking, Billings, Mont.; and United Petroleum Transports, Oklahoma City.
—6,000,001 to 9,000,000 miles: Dupre’ Logistics LLC, Lafayette.
—9,000,001 to 12,000,000 miles: Quality Transport Inc., Baton Rouge.
—12,000,001 to 20,000,000 miles: Walmart Stores Inc., Opelousas.
—20,000,001 miles and above: Service Transport Company, Houston.
—Most improved: Arabie Trucking Services LLC, Thibodaux.
—President’s Trophy: Hercules Transport Inc., Choudrant, 1,000,001 to 3,000,000 miles.
The Louisiana Motor Transport Association Inc. is the non-profit trade association representing over 350 trucking and allied industry companies throughout Louisiana. LMTA is the officially recognized affiliate of the American Trucking Associations Inc. of Washington, D.C.
The winners in each class are determined by totaling the scores of all three tests. The Mechanics Award is given to the person who has the highest score on the Pre-trip Inspection. The Rookie of the Year is the driver with the highest score among those who are participating in a truck driving championship for the first time. The Team Award is given to the company that has the overall highest average score based on the scores of the competing drivers from that company. The Grand Champion is the driver who receives the highest overall score during the competition.
Also honored were the 2013 LMTA Driver of the Year and the 2013 Safety Professional of the Year:
The 2013 LMTA Driver of the Year is an award presented to the outstanding professional driver based on their background, number of accident-free driving years, and years’ experience who has performed an outstanding deed of heroism or highway courtesy, made an outstanding contribution to highway safety, and/or has a long record of safe and courteous driving. This year’s award was presented to Keith L. Perkins, Aeropres Corporation, Sibley.
The 2013 Safety Professional of the Year is an award presented to the safety professional among the LMTA members who has exhibited outstanding support in the safety field. This year’s award was presented to Tammy Z. Cedotal, Arabie Trucking Service, Thibodaux.
