Race to the reservation in the Chitimacha 20 Saturday

“They ride on snake bayou” reads the above quote in Chitimacha. The artwork adorns T-shirts worn by members of the tribe as they man their popular checkpoint during the fall Tour du Teche. “Teche” is how the word “qukx” sounded to French ears.

The Chitimacha 20, a marathon for canoes, kayaks and other paddle craft, will be held Saturday, May 14.
