Patterson school work

Demolition of the former office of Dr. Earl Eues on First Street in Patterson began with asbestos abatement recently by R&D Contractors in Jeanerette. The project now is in the demolition phase in anticipation of construction of the new Patterson Junior High School building, according to St. Mary Superintendent Donald Aguillard. Architect Jim Firmin continues to develop the plan for the new school, and a mechanical engineer has been contacted to look at options for cooling the existing building while the new building is under construction, Aguillard said. Meanwhile, a contractor broke ground this week on Hattie Watts Elementary’s new $1.9 million multi-purpose building. Both projects are supported by $21 million in bonds backed by a 15-mill property tax voters approved a year ago.
