Student art show to open Monday

Patterson Junior High School art teacher Reagan Beaubouef, left, and West St. Mary High School art teacher Doug Rowntree put up a piece of artwork Thursday in preparation for Monday’s 17th Annual St. Mary Parish Student Art Show at the Everett Street Art Gallery in Morgan City. Students in grades pre-K to 12th grade will participate. The students’ artwork will be displayed in the gallery through March 28.

Cement spills on U.S. 90

A truck carrying cement septic tanks lost some of its cargo and shut down an east-bound lane of traffic on U.S. 90 near Amelia Thursday afternoon for nearly two hours, according to St. Mary Parish Sheriff spokeswoman Traci Landry. The Amelia Volunteer Fire Department assisted in cleaning up the debris. The investigation was turned over to the Department of Transportation and Development, Landry said.
