Members of the Chitimacha Nation steady a paddler in Tour du Teche, the 135-mile ultra-marathon down the entire length of Bayou Teche. The tribe hosts a deluxe checkpoint on its reservation near Charenton every year, cooking hot dogs and padding the concrete ramp with discarded carpet from Cypress Bayou Casino. Now the Nation is the finish line for a 20-mile race starting in New Iberia on April 18. (Gini McKain/Tour du Teche photo)
