Staff Report

Law enforcement authorities are searching for a suspect and “vehicle of interest” in connection with a robbery Tuesday at M C Bank in Bayou Vista.
At 11:05 a.m. Tuesday, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call of a robbery that took place at M C Bank on Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
Deputies are working to identify and locate a suspect who entered the bank, demanded money from an employee, and then left the location with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one inside the bank was injured during the robbery, the release said.
The suspect, as described by witnesses, appears to be a white male wearing blue jeans, dark colored shoes and a baseball cap, the release stated.
Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Traci Landry said authorities are looking for a red pickup truck that has a foot-wide silver stripe across the side.
There may be a connection between the person seen in the red truck and the robbery in Bayou Vista, Landry said.
That truck was seen at the Morgan City Federal Credit Union on Victor II Boulevard moments after the Bayou Vista robbery, according to Morgan City Police spokesman Capt. James Blair. Employees at the credit union in Morgan City reported a suspicious person who was unable to gain access to the credit union building and left the vicinity.
Blair said the person seen at the Morgan City Federal Credit Union is described as being a white male, 6 feet tall, 150 to 160 pounds who was wearing a dark hoodie, jeans, a dark bandana, dark running shoes and a cap with a Toronto Blue Jays, Philadelphia Eagles or similar logo on the front. He is described as being 35 to 45 years old.
“It fits the description of the gentleman in Bayou Vista, but we haven’t verified that it is, in fact, the same subject,” Blair said.
Landry said this morning that detectives are still trying to determine if the bank robbery suspect is the same person seen on surveillance footage at Morgan City Federal Credit Union.
He left the area in an older model step-side pickup truck with a red top. It has a silver stripe down the side and a handicapped placard on the rear view mirror, Blair said.
Bayou Vista Elementary School, which went on lockdown shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday, was released from lockdown at 1 p.m. Tuesday. The school had been secured in response to the robbery, according to Assistant Superintendent Keith Thibodeaux.
Anyone who may see the suspect should not approach. They should contact local authorities, Landry said.
Anyone with information on the crime or the identity of the person in the pictures should contact the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office at 985-384-1622 or 337-828-1960 or the Morgan City Police Department at 985-380-4605.
