Power outage attributed to weather
The cold weather caused some electrical wires to burn leading to a power outage that lasted about an hour Wednesday afternoon, City Utilities Director Bill Cefalu said.
A short in the electrical wires caused one of the electrical lines to burn to the ground at the intersection of Fig and Hemlock streets around 3 p.m., Cefalu said.
Cefalu said contraction and expansion due to cold weather probably caused a “hot clamp,” which connects one wire to another, to come loose at the corner of Levee Road and Shaw Drive causing the wire to short out.
These problems in the wires caused power to go out from Onstead Street to Levee Road and from Sixth Street to Lake Palourde, he said. Power was restored by about 4:15 p.m.
