Port OKs purchase of Superior facility
West St. Mary Port commissioners approved a resolution Tuesday authorizing purchase of the former Superior Fabricators facility on the Charenton Navigation and Drainage Canal.
They also approved another resolution authorizing Executive Director David Allain to enter into a lease agreement with LAD Services LLC for the site.
The company intends to fabricate barges on the site and employ dozens of workers.
Cost of the property is $2.8 million.
Allain also reported that he is negotiating with a tenant for the industrial park on the canal.
“I’m hoping first quarter of next year we can have some sort of action on this,” he said.
The tenant, who Allain did not identify, will occupy the entire site.
The commission also elected Ralph Longman president for the upcoming year, Willie Peters vice president and Wayne Stevens secretary.
