Pool to open Monday

The Morgan City public pool will be open for public swimming beginning Monday with swimming lessons and summer day camps also starting Monday, according to a city recreation department news release.
Swimming lessons are scheduled to begin Monday at the Morgan City public pool for anyone 42 inches below the chin or taller, the release stated. The cost is $40 for Morgan City residents and $50 for non-residents.
The first session begins Monday and ends June 20. Session two registration runs from June 16 to June 20. Session two goes from June 23 through July 3. Session three registration goes from June 30 through July 3. Session three runs from July 7 through July 18.
Registration will be taken at the Morgan City public pool. For more information, call the pool at 985-380-4652.
Public swimming sessions will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Lap swim sessions begin Monday and are offered daily from 6 to 7 a.m. and from 6 to 7 p.m.
The Morgan City Recreation Department will also be having its Summer Day Camp program at Shannon Elementary for children 7 years old by May 1 of the current year and for youth’s not turning 13 before July 31. There will be three two-week sessions, which follow the same registration and session schedule as swimming lessons.
The cost of the camp is $150 per session per child. Each session of camp will include swimming lessons, lunch and an afternoon activity such as bowling, movie presentations, and visits to Lake End Park, the news release stated. The times for the camp are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of each registration week will be for Morgan City residents, while Thursday and Friday will be for out of town residents, the release said. Only the first 56 applicants will be accepted due to bus transportation, the release stated.
To register, bring birth certificate and the required registration fee of $150 to the Morgan City Recreation Department located at 915 Everett St., Morgan City, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 to 5 pm. For more information, call 985-380-4600.
