Parish council will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday
Members of the St. Mary Parish Council meet in regular session Wednesday beginning at 10 a.m. on the fifth floor of the courthouse in Franklin.
The council has moved its regular meeting time from 6 p.m. to allow its members to attend the opening of the Louisiana Police Jury’s annual conference in Baton Rouge later in the day.
Items on the agenda include introduction of two ordinances to amend the home rule charter to include deductions of council member compensation for non-attendance of meetings and expand the president’s term limits from two to three terms.
If passed by the council, voters would have the final say on a November ballot.
Other items on Wednesday’s agenda resolutions:
—Endorsing participation in the Quality Jobs Program by Gravois Aluminum Boats LLC and in the Enterprise Zone Program Swiftships Shipbuilders, LLC.
—Approving a change order with Sealevel Construction Inc. on the seaway rehab project at Harry P. Williams Memorial Airport.
—Approving agreements with Lafayette Parish on its Juvenile Detention Home, and with St. Mary Parish Consolidated Gravity Drainage District 2 on the use of office space in the old Whitney Bank Building in Morgan City.
—Approving the call of an election by Fire Protection District 7 in the Bayou Vista area on Saturday, May 3, to authorize the levy of a special tax.
—Approving a resolution of appreciation to North American Salt Co. for the donation of road salt during recent past freezing weather events.
The council is also slated to hear from Lisa Schilling, executive director of South Central Louisiana Human Services Authority and an American Red Cross representative to request the adoption of a proclamation supporting March as American Red Cross Month.
