Memorial planned for slain officer

Sgt. Rick Riggenbach

The Chitimacha Tribal Police Department will hold a Candlelight Memorial Vigil at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Chitimacha Tribal Police Department, 211 Coushatta Dr., to honor slain Sgt. Frederick “Rick” Riggenbach, according to tribal officer Chenette Iverson.
The vigil will be on the one-year anniversary of Riggenbach’s death when he responded to a call involving a man armed with a shotgun walking on Flat Town Road in Charenton. Wilbert Thibodeaux has been charged with shooting Riggenbach and remains jailed after pleading not guilty by reason of insanity.
The public is invited to attend the vigil.
