Lamp decorating contest set for local Relay
The City of Franklin and the local Relay for Life committee will sponsor a lamppost decorating contest.
“The City of Franklin is filled with generous, philanthropic people,” Mayor Raymond Harris said. “Many of them would like to participate in Relay for Life, but they are unable to do so due to other commitments. The Relay for Life committee and the City of Franklin are providing an opportunity for participation through the lamppost decorating contest.”
Contestants will be judged on how well they express the theme “Surfin’ for a Cure” and the use of the color purple. The lampposts will be judged on May 2, and the winners will be announced on May 3.
Entry forms can be picked up at city hall. The entry fee, which will be donated to the American Cancer Society, is $10. Contestants can begin decorating on April 1 and decorating ends on April 30. Lampposts will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. Additionally, all decorated lampposts must have the name of the person, business, organization or school that is participating as a part of the display. Decorations must be removed by May 9.
