Lady Eagles vying for state championship
Central Catholic is vying for the state championship Saturday.
The Central Catholic Lady Eagle basketball team will look to make history Saturday when they compete in the Class 1A state championship contest, the school’s first-ever in girls’ basketball
The Lady Eagles face the top-seed North Central Lady Canes at Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles.
Central Catholic, the No. 2 seed, advanced to the finals after knocking off previously undefeated and No. 3 seed Merryville High School (31-1) 68-51 in Class 1A semifinal action Wednesday.
North Central enters the finals with a 30-2 mark. The Lady Canes advanced to the finals after edging No. 5 seed Arcadia, 61-58, in Class 1A semifinal action preceding Central Catholic’s semifinal contest Wednesday.
North Central’s road to the finals also has included wins against No. 32 Kentwood (88-41) in bi-district action, No. 16 Varnado (64-43) in the regional round (64-43) and No. 8 Southern Lab (44-34) in the Class 1A quarterfinals.
The journey for Central Catholic (28-3) has included wins against No. 31 seed Logansport (64-20) in bi-district action, No. 15 St. Mary (43-25) in the regional round and No. 7 Tensas (64-45) in the quarterfinals.
Admission to Saturday’s game will be $10.
The game will be broadcast on KBZE 105.9 FM, KFRA 1390 AM and www.kbze.com. Pregame will start at 1 p.m.
