Ex-court official case continues
FRANKLIN — The malfeasance in office and theft trial of former Morgan City Juvenile Services Administrator Verne Lightfoot was moved to April 14 on a motion by her defense this morning in 16th Judicial Court.
Assistant District Attorney Anthony Saleme certified Lightfoot’s case as ready for trial this week.
With no jury selected for Friday morning, Saleme said he was unable to object to a continuance requested by Lightfoot’s defense attorney.
In addition to malfeasance in office and theft of over $1,500, Lightfoot is charged with forgery arising from a Louisiana State police investigation leading to her June 13, 2012, arrest.
Lightfoot is free on $25,000 bail, clerk of court records show.
