City home burns twice
Franklin Fire Department personnel responded to two fires Monday at the same residence.
Chief Chuck Bourgeois reported that the first call was at 2:19 p.m. at 324 Talbot St. where firefighters found heavy smoke at the mobile home on arrival.
No one was home at the time and the fire was contained to the rear portion of the home. Baldwin, Centerville, Chitimacha and District 11 fire personnel rendered mutual aid.
That blaze was brought under control, but firefighters were called to the home again at 7:19 p.m. and found the residence totally involved in fire. Baldwin and Centerville responded to assist extinguishing the fire.
The causes of both fires are under investigation, Bourgeois said. Damage was termed “total” and estimated at $35,000 to the structure and $35,000 to the contents. The family lost everything. The American Red Cross is providing assistance as of now and information on providing aid to them will be forthcoming.
